By purchasing a ticket and/or attending Matakanarama you agree to everything below.
1. Entry, Age Restrictions & Ticket Validity
- Matakanarama is R20. You must present a valid photo ID (Passport, NZ Driver Licence, or Kiwi Access/18+ Card) on arrival.
- No glass is permitted to be brought onto the premises including but not limited to glass bottles, mirrors, etc.
- A valid, scannable ticket is required for entry. Lost tickets will not be replaced or refunded.
- Humanitix is our official Ticket & Resale provider. DO NOT exchange funds for Tickets elsewhere as official name changes will not have taken place and Tickets are checked against IDs when entering the festival. Don’t get left out of pocket and without a valid Ticket. Scamming has increased significantly online.
2. Ticket Refunds, Protection and Resale
2.1 Event Cancellation
If Matakanarama is cancelled by the organiser, ticket holders will be entitled to a refund of the ticket price paid in proportion to the cancellation period over the entire event period. This excludes booking fees and any optional Ticket Protection fees.
2.2 Ticket Protection
At checkout, attendees have the option to purchase XCover Ticket Protection. Any refund requests relating to illness, injury, travel disruption, or other unforeseen circumstances must be submitted directly to XCover and will be assessed in accordance with XCover’s terms, conditions, and eligibility criteria.
Matakanarama and Humanitix do not assess, approve, or process XCover claims; these are handled by XCover.

2.3 Change of Mind
Tickets are non-refundable except where required by applicable law or where covered by an approved Ticket Protection claim.
2.4 Ticket Resale
Humanitix is the official and only authorised ticket resale platform for Matakanarama.
Resale and ticket transfer functionality may be enabled at a later date at the organiser’s discretion. If enabled, all resales and ticket transfers must be completed through Humanitix using the official resale functionality.
Tickets purchased, transferred, or exchanged outside of Humanitix are done entirely at the purchaser’s risk. Matakanarama cannot verify the validity of tickets obtained through unauthorised channels and reserves the right to refuse entry where ticket ownership cannot be verified.
2.5 Important Information
* Booking fees are non-refundable.
* Ticket Protection fees are non-refundable.
* Tickets may only be resold at the original purchase price through the official Humanitix resale platform.
* Any approved refunds will be processed back to the original payment method used for purchase.
3. Camping Access & Departure
- You must present a valid camping ticket alongside your festival entry ticket to camp at the Festival.
- Campers must vacate the site by 1 pm the day after their ticket date.
- Camp only in designated areas and take all of your belongings home. Especially your tent.
- All tents, rubbish, and belongings must be cleaned up and removed when departing.
4. Food and drink
4.1 Non-Alcoholic Beverage & Food Packaging Rules
- Non-alcoholic beverages (e.g., water, juice, electrolytes) must be in sealed plastic or cardboard vessels.
- Any food brought on site must be pre-packaged or prepared in advance – no cooking facilities will be available for general attendees. No open flames are allowed on the grounds.
- No glass containers of any kind are permitted (including for sauces, condiments, etc.).
- Bag checks will be conducted at the gate to ensure compliance.
4.2 On-Site Bars
- Licensed bars will operate within the festival and are available only to attendees aged 20+.
- You may be asked to present a valid photo ID (Passport, NZ Driver Licence, or Kiwi Access/18+ Card) to purchase alcohol on-site.
- Matakanarama staff reserve the right to refuse service to intoxicated patrons.
- New Zealand alcohol laws apply – please drink responsibly.
5. Conduct & Behaviour
- Matakanarama is an inclusive, respectful space. Harassment, discrimination, violence, or unsafe behaviour may result in immediate removal without refund at the discretion of our staff.
- Follow all instructions from security, medics, and crew.
6. Prohibited & Controlled Items
- Prohibited: Illegal substances, alcohol, weapons, fireworks, flares, open flames, all glass containers.
- Confiscated items are not returned or refunded.
7. Medical & Emergency
- On-site medics are available during peak operational hours. By attending, you consent to receive medical assistance at your own risk if required.
8. Liability
- Attendance is at your own risk. Organisers are not liable for personal injury, property loss, theft, or damage. Line-up and schedule are subject to change without compensation.
9. Photography & Media
- By entering you grant permission to be photographed or filmed for promotional use.
10. Weather & Force Majeure
- Matakanarama is an all-weather event. Refunds are only given if the entire event is cancelled.
11. Legal Compliance
- All NZ laws apply on site. Offenders may be removed and referred to authorities.
12. Security & Entry Screening
- All attendees consent to security checks upon entry and at any time while on festival grounds.
This may include bag searches, alcohol limit checks, metal detection, pat-downs and/or car searches. - Failure to comply with screening procedures may result in denied entry or removal without refund.
- These checks help ensure a safe environment for everyone.
