Terms & Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply to the Matakanarama festival taking place at 137 Cape Rodney Road, Leigh, Auckland from 29 December 2026 to 1 January 2027 (the Event).

The Event is promoted by Matakanarama Limited (the Promoter, we, us or our).

By purchasing a ticket, pass or other Event entitlement, entering the Event Site, or otherwise attending or participating in the Event, you agree to comply with these Terms and Conditions and any reasonable directions given by Event Staff.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes, restricts or modifies any rights or remedies you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other applicable law.

1. DEFINITIONS

In these Terms and Conditions:

Event means Matakanarama 2026.
Event Site means 137 Cape Rodney Road, Leigh, Auckland and any associated areas used for the Event, including camping, parking, vehicle access, glamping and other areas designated by the Promoter.
Event Staff means the Promoter and its employees, contractors, volunteers, security personnel, medical personnel, traffic management personnel, ticketing personnel, agents and other persons authorised to work at or manage the Event.
Ticket means a valid ticket providing access to the Event or a specified part of the Event.
Parking Pass means a valid parking pass issued by or on behalf of the Promoter.
Wristband means a wristband issued to identify Event access or another entitlement.
Prohibited Item means an item prohibited under these Terms and Conditions, Event signage, applicable law or reasonable Event requirements.

2. TICKETS AND ADMISSION

2.1 Valid Ticket required
You must hold a valid Ticket to enter the Event Site.

Tickets purchased through unauthorised channels may be invalid, including where a Ticket has been duplicated, cancelled, fraudulently obtained or previously used.

We recommend purchasing Tickets only through the official ticketing platform or an authorised resale mechanism.

2.2 Ticket types
Different Tickets may provide different rights, including access to:

- the festival;
- camping;
- glamping;
- vehicle camping; or
- other specified areas or services.

You are responsible for checking that you purchase the correct Ticket for your intended use.

2.3 R20 Event
Matakanarama is a strictly R20 Event.

You must be 20 years of age or older to attend.

You must provide valid photographic identification when requested to verify your age. If you cannot establish that you meet the age requirement to our reasonable satisfaction, entry may be refused.

2.4 Capacity
The Event operates subject to maximum capacity requirements.

The sale of a Ticket does not necessarily guarantee admission to an area of the Event that has reached a legally or operationally applicable capacity.

2.5 Ticket limits
We may impose reasonable limits on the number or type of Tickets that may be purchased by a person.

Tickets obtained in excess of an applicable published limit may be cancelled where reasonably necessary.

3. TICKET TRANSFERS AND RESALE

3.1 Change of Mind
Tickets are non-refundable except where required by applicable law or where covered by an approved Ticket Protection claim.

3.2 Ticket Resale
Humanitix is the official and only authorised ticket resale platform for Matakanarama.

Resale and ticket transfer functionality may be enabled at a later date at the organiser’s discretion. If enabled, all resales and ticket transfers must be completed through Humanitix using the official resale functionality.

Tickets purchased, transferred, or exchanged outside of Humanitix are done entirely at the purchaser’s risk. Matakanarama cannot verify the validity of tickets obtained through unauthorised channels and reserves the right to refuse entry where ticket ownership cannot be verified.

3.3 Ticket Protection
At checkout, attendees have the option to purchase XCover Ticket Protection. Any refund requests relating to illness, injury, travel disruption, or other unforeseen circumstances must be submitted directly to XCover and will be assessed in accordance with XCover’s terms, conditions, and eligibility criteria.
Matakanarama and Humanitix do not assess, approve, or process XCover claims; these are handled by XCover.

3.4 Important Information
- Booking fees are non-refundable.
- Ticket Protection fees are non-refundable.
- Tickets may only be resold at the original purchase price through the official Humanitix resale platform.
- Any approved refunds will be processed back to the original payment method used for purchase.

4. ENTRY

4.1 Entry requirements
Entry may require:
- scanning your Ticket;
- identity and age verification;
- security screening;inspection of belongings;
- vehicle checks;issuing and attaching a Wristband; and
- compliance with reasonable entry directions.

4.2 Main entrance
The main entrance is the primary entrance for general admission patrons.

The main entrance gate is currently scheduled to close at 7:00pm each Event day. After the main entrance has closed, general admission pass-outs and re-entry will not ordinarily be available.

We may close or restrict access earlier where reasonably necessary for safety, capacity, emergency, weather or operational reasons.

4.3 Re-entry
If you leave the Event Site, you must follow the applicable re-entry process.

The secondary exit is not a general re-entry point for general admission patrons.

Where re-entry is available, you may be required to return to the main entrance while it remains open and comply with the applicable security and entry process.

4.4 Wristbands
Where a Wristband is issued:

- it must be worn at all times while you are onsite;
- it must remain securely attached;
- it must not be transferred to another person;
- it must not be removed, altered, damaged or tampered with.

A person found without the required Wristband, using another person's Wristband, or using an altered or tampered Wristband may be refused entry or removed from the Event Site.

5. SECURITY CHECKS

As a condition of entry, you may be required to undergo a reasonable security check of yourself, your belongings and, where applicable, your vehicle.

Security screening may include:

- bag checks;
- inspection of personal property;
- vehicle checks;
- reasonable physical screening; and
- other reasonable security measures appropriate to the circumstances.

Security checks may also be undertaken elsewhere on the Event Site where there are reasonable grounds to believe that a dangerous or prohibited item may be present.

If you refuse a reasonable security check, we may refuse you entry or require you to leave the Event Site.

6. REFUSAL OF ENTRY

Entry may be refused where you:

- do not hold a valid Ticket or required pass;
- do not meet the R20 age requirement;
- cannot provide satisfactory identification;
- refuse a reasonable security or identification check;
- are visibly intoxicated or otherwise appear unable to safely participate in the Event;
- attempt to bring a Prohibited Item onto the Event Site;
- attempt unauthorised access to a restricted area;
- present an unreasonable safety or security risk;
- breach these Terms and Conditions; or
- fail to follow a reasonable direction from Event Staff.

Where entry is refused, any refund will be dealt with in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and applicable law.

7. EVENT CONDUCT

You must behave in a manner that is safe and respectful to other attendees, Event Staff, artists, contractors, volunteers and members of the public.

You must not:

- assault, threaten, intimidate or harass another person;
- engage in violent or aggressive behaviour;
- engage in discriminatory or abusive conduct;
- engage in sexual harassment or sexual violence;
- deliberately or recklessly endanger another person;
- damage Event Site property;
- interfere with safety equipment or Event infrastructure;
- obstruct emergency access;
- enter restricted areas without permission;
- climb stages, structures, fencing, lighting or other infrastructure;
- interfere with generators, electrical infrastructure or other operational equipment;
- engage in unlawful activity;
- interfere with medical, security or emergency personnel; or
- refuse to follow a reasonable direction from Event Staff.

We encourage people experiencing or witnessing a problem to seek assistance early. Patron support and welfare services are available during the Event.

8. PROHIBITED ITEMS

The following items are prohibited from the Event Site unless expressly authorised:

- weapons or items intended or capable of causing serious injury;
- firearms or imitation firearms;
- tasers, pepper spray or similar weapons;
- illegal or illicit substances;
- glass containers;
- fireworks, flares, sparklers or explosives;open flames or unauthorised fire;
- BBQs, gas bottles, butane canisters or cylinders;
- generators;
- flammable materials presenting an unreasonable fire risk;
- drones;
- large sound systems;
- laser equipment capable of creating a safety risk;
- animals, except where permitted by law;
- any equipment or object that presents an unreasonable safety risk; and
- any other item prohibited by law or reasonably considered unsafe for the Event.

The Promoter and Event Staff may confiscate a Prohibited Item.

Illegal, dangerous or high-risk items may be referred to Police or another appropriate authority.

Where reasonably practicable, an item that is prohibited but can safely be returned to your vehicle may be required to be removed from your possession rather than confiscated.

9. ALCOHOL

9.1 Licensed Event
Matakanarama operates as a licensed event.Alcohol may only be purchased from authorised licensed bars at the Event.

9.2 No BYO alcohol
BYO alcohol is prohibited throughout the entire Event Site.
Alcohol brought onto the Event Site without authorisation may be confiscated.

This prohibition applies to the festival area, camping areas, glamping areas, vehicle camping areas and other parts of the Event Site.

9.3 Alcohol service
Alcohol service will operate only during permitted trading hours and in accordance with applicable licensing requirements.

9.4 Responsible service
Alcohol service may be delayed or refused where Event Staff reasonably believe that further service would be irresponsible or inconsistent with host responsibility requirements.

This may include where a person appears intoxicated, is consuming alcohol rapidly, is purchasing alcohol irresponsibly or is behaving in a manner creating a safety risk.

9.5 Alcohol service limits
A maximum of two alcoholic beverages per person per transaction will ordinarily apply.

This limit may be reduced or alcohol service may be temporarily suspended where required for responsible service, safety, licensing or operational reasons.

9.6 Drinks
Straight spirits and straight shots will not be sold.

Alcohol will be served in approved containers.

Glass containers are prohibited throughout the Event Site.

9.7 Water and food
Free drinking water will be available at designated water stations throughout the Event Site.

Food vendors will operate during alcohol service hours.

10. DRUGS AND ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

Illegal drugs and illicit substances are prohibited.

If you are found possessing, supplying, trafficking or otherwise dealing in illegal substances, you may be removed from the Event and the matter may be reported to Police.

Our medical and welfare teams are available to assist people who are distressed, unwell, intoxicated or experiencing substance-related harm.

Seeking medical or welfare assistance is encouraged where someone may be at risk.

11. MEDICAL AND PATRON SUPPORT

Medical and patron support services will operate during the Event.

You should seek assistance from Event Staff if you or another person:

- is injured;
- becomes seriously unwell;
- is experiencing severe distress;
- has consumed too much alcohol;
- may have taken an unknown or harmful substance;
- feels unsafe;has been harassed or harmed; or
- otherwise requires assistance.

Event Staff may arrange or facilitate medical treatment or emergency assistance where reasonably necessary.

In an emergency, call 111 or immediately notify Event Staff.

12. EMERGENCIES AND EVACUATION

The Event may be subject to emergency situations including fire, severe weather, medical emergencies, security incidents or other circumstances requiring immediate action.

If an emergency is declared or an evacuation, relocation, shelter-in-place or other safety instruction is given, you must follow the instructions of Event Staff and emergency services promptly and calmly.

You must not:

- obstruct emergency access;
- interfere with emergency personnel;
- return to an evacuated area without authorisation;or
- retrieve belongings where doing so creates a safety risk.

The Promoter may use announcements, signage, staff, megaphones or other communication methods to provide emergency instructions.

13. CAMPING

Camping access is only available to Ticket holders with the relevant camping entitlement.

The Event may offer separate areas for:

- general camping;
- glamping; and
- vehicle camping.

Access to these areas is controlled by the applicable Ticket, pass or Wristband.

13.1 Camping access
If you do not hold the appropriate camping entitlement, you may not enter a restricted camping area.

General admission patrons without camping access are not permitted to enter the general camping area after 8:00pm.

13.2 Camping conduct
You must:

- camp only in designated areas;
- keep roads and emergency routes clear;
- use the facilities provided;
- dispose of rubbish appropriately;
- follow fire and smoking restrictions;
- comply with quiet-hour requirements; and
- follow reasonable directions from Event Staff.

13.3 No alcohol in camping areas
Alcohol may not be brought into or consumed in the campground.

Alcohol purchased from Event bars remains subject to all applicable restrictions and directions.

13.4 Fire
Open flames are prohibited across the Event Site, including campsites and vehicles.

Unauthorised fires, BBQs and other open-flame cooking equipment are prohibited.

13.5 Leaving camping areas
All camping equipment, belongings and rubbish must be removed when you leave.
Any items left behind may be removed or disposed of after the Event.

14. GLAMPING AND VEHICLE CAMPING

Glamping and vehicle camping are separate Event access categories.

A general camping or Event Ticket does not automatically provide access to glamping or vehicle camping areas.

You must have the relevant entitlement to access or occupy those areas.

Vehicle camping is subject to additional vehicle and parking requirements and does not permit unrestricted vehicle access throughout the Event Site.

15. VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC

All vehicles must:

- use designated vehicle entry and exit points;
- follow traffic management directions;
- travel at a safe speed;
- remain in designated areas;
- keep emergency routes clear; and
- comply with applicable road rules.

You must not drive while impaired by alcohol, drugs or any other substance.

Event Staff may intervene where there is a genuine concern that a person may attempt to drive while impaired. This may include encouraging the person to remain onsite, return to accommodation, use a sober driver or use another available transport option.

Where necessary to protect public safety, Police may be contacted.

16. PAID CAR PARKING
A separate Parking Pass is required for Event parking where parking passes are specified as being required for the relevant parking area.

A Parking Pass:

- is valid only for the vehicle and period specified at purchase;
- does not constitute an Event Ticket;
- does not include camping;
- does not include vehicle camping;
- does not guarantee a particular parking space;
- does not guarantee parking close to the Event entrance; and
- does not guarantee entry to the Event.

16.1 Designated parking
Vehicles may only be parked in areas designated by Event Staff.

The Event may use multiple parking areas and you may be directed to a particular parking area depending on capacity, traffic flow, weather, ground conditions, vehicle type or other operational requirements.

16.2 No roadside parking
You must not park on or alongside Cape Rodney Road or other public roads in a manner that is unsafe, unlawful or obstructs traffic.

You must not obstruct:

- emergency access;
- gates;
- access roads;
- pedestrian routes;
- other vehicles; or
- designated fire or emergency routes.

16.3 Vehicle checks
Vehicles may be subject to security checks on arrival.

Vehicle searches may be conducted routinely or selectively depending on traffic conditions and operational requirements.

16.4 Parking directions
You must follow all reasonable directions from parking, traffic management and Event Staff.

We may direct you to move or relocate a vehicle where reasonably required for safety, emergency access, traffic management or Event operations.

16.5 Parking at owner's risk
You remain responsible for your vehicle and its contents while parked.

You should lock your vehicle and secure valuables.

Subject to any rights you have under applicable law, the Promoter is not responsible for theft of or damage to your vehicle or property left inside it, except to the extent caused by the Promoter's own breach of a legal obligation that cannot lawfully be excluded.

16.6 Vehicle condition
Vehicles must not:
- leak fuel, oil or other hazardous substances;
- create an unreasonable fire or safety risk;
- obstruct access;
- be materially unsafe; or
- otherwise create an unreasonable risk to people or property.

16.7 Vehicle camping
A Parking Pass does not permit you to sleep in your vehicle or occupy your vehicle overnight unless you also hold the required vehicle-camping entitlement.

17. WEATHER AND GROUND CONDITIONS

The Event takes place outdoors on rural land.

You acknowledge that weather and ground conditions may affect:

- parking;
- pedestrian movement;
- camping;
- vehicle access;
- programmed activities;
- stages and infrastructure; and
- other Event operations.

We may temporarily close, relocate or restrict access to areas where weather or ground conditions create a safety or operational risk.

18. EVENT PROGRAMME AND ARTISTS

The Event programme, artists, performance times, stages, activities, facilities and other Event details may change.

We may reasonably:

- substitute an artist;
- change performance times;
- modify activities;
- change stage arrangements;
- modify facilities;
- alter access arrangements; or
- make other operational changes.

We will endeavour to communicate material changes where reasonably practicable.

A Ticket does not guarantee the appearance of any particular artist unless expressly stated otherwise.

Nothing in this clause excludes any rights you may have under applicable law where the Event is materially different from what was represented at the time of purchase.

19. EVENT SUSPENSION, RELOCATION OR CANCELLATION

We may suspend, postpone, relocate, materially modify or cancel all or part of the Event where reasonably necessary due to circumstances including:

- extreme or dangerous weather;
- fire;
- natural disaster;
- serious health or safety risks;
- government direction;
- Police or emergency service direction;
- loss or variation of a required licence, approval or permission;
- serious infrastructure or utility failure;
- venue or land access issues;
- security risks; or
- other circumstances outside our reasonable control.

Where the Event is cancelled, postponed or materially altered, any refund, credit or other remedy will be determined in accordance with applicable law and the circumstances of the change.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits any mandatory rights you may have under New Zealand law.

20. RESTRICTED CAPACITY AREAS

Certain areas may have their own maximum capacity.

This may include stages, enclosed areas, buildings, structures or other areas where crowd numbers need to be controlled.

When an area reaches its safe or permitted capacity, entry may be temporarily restricted even if you hold a valid Event Ticket.

21. PHOTOGRAPHY, FILMING AND RECORDING

Photography and filming will take place at the Event.

By entering the Event, you acknowledge that you may appear in photographs, video, audio recordings or other media captured by or on behalf of the Promoter.

The Promoter may use such material for legitimate Event-related purposes including:

- marketing;
- advertising;
- social media;
- websites;
- promotional material; and
- archival purposes.

You may take ordinary photographs and recordings for your own personal use.

Commercial photography, filming or recording requires prior approval or appropriate accreditation.

You must not commercially exploit recordings of artists, performances or the Event without the appropriate rights.

22. PERSONAL BELONGINGS AND LOST PROPERTY

You are responsible for your personal belongings while attending the Event.

Do not leave valuable property unattended in tents, vehicles or other unsecured locations.

Lost property should be handed to Event Staff or reported to the designated information or lost-property location.

At the end of the Event, unclaimed property may be disposed of or donated after a reasonable period.

23. DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

You are responsible for damage you intentionally, recklessly or negligently cause to:

- Event property;
- Event infrastructure;
- another person's property; or
- vehicles or other equipment.

You may be required to reimburse the Promoter for reasonable costs arising from such damage, subject to applicable law.

24. ENVIRONMENT AND WASTE

Matakanarama is committed to responsible management of the Event Site and surrounding environment.

You must:

- dispose of rubbish in designated bins;
- use toilets and facilities provided;
- not deliberately damage vegetation or property;
- not interfere with environmental or conservation areas;
- not litter; and
- remove your belongings and camping equipment when you leave.

We may charge reasonable costs resulting from the removal of property, waste or materials deliberately or recklessly left behind where permitted by law.

25. ACCESSIBILITY

The Event is held in a rural outdoor environment and some areas may contain uneven, sloping, muddy or otherwise difficult terrain.

We will provide reasonable accessibility arrangements where practicable.

You should contact us before the Event regarding accessibility requirements so that reasonable arrangements can be considered.

26. SMOKING

Smoking is subject to applicable New Zealand law and Event signage.

Smoking must not take place in locations where it is prohibited or where it creates a fire or safety risk.

Smoking materials must be disposed of safely.

27. ANIMALS

Animals are not permitted on the Event Site except where permitted by law or expressly authorised by the Promoter, including legally recognised assistance animals where applicable.

28. REMOVAL FROM THE EVENT

A person may be removed from the Event where they:

- engage in violence, threats, aggression or harassment;
- create a safety risk;
- are seriously intoxicated or otherwise unable to safely participate;
- possess or use Prohibited Items;
- engage in illegal activity;
- attempt unauthorised access;
- damage property;
- refuse to follow reasonable Event Staff directions;
- breach these Terms and Conditions; or
- otherwise create an unreasonable risk to themselves or others.

Where reasonably practicable, Event Staff will seek to manage behavioural issues through communication and de-escalation before removal is required.

However, serious or immediate safety issues may result in immediate removal.

29. TRESPASS AND RE-ENTRY AFTER REMOVAL

A person who is removed from the Event may be required to leave the Event Site immediately.

The person's details may be recorded for security and incident-management purposes.

A person who is removed may be issued with a trespass notice and prohibited from returning to the Event Site.

A person must not attempt to re-enter after being removed or after being issued with a trespass notice.

Where a person refuses to leave, attempts to re-enter or presents an ongoing safety risk, the matter may be referred to Police.

30. MEDICAL OR EMERGENCY REMOVAL

Where reasonably necessary to protect a person's health or safety or the safety of others, Event Staff may request or arrange emergency assistance, medical assessment, transportation or relocation.

Where medical or welfare circumstances make continued attendance unsafe, the person may be required to leave the Event.

31. MOVEMENT AROUND THE EVENT SITE

You must take reasonable care when moving around the Event Site.

You must:

- use designated pedestrian routes where provided;
- follow traffic and pedestrian directions;
- keep emergency access routes clear;
- not obstruct the movement of others; and
- comply with directions given by Event Staff.

You should familiarise yourself with the Event Site layout and the location of exits, toilets, water, medical services and other important facilities.

32. EMERGENCY ACCESS

Emergency access routes must remain clear at all times.

You must not park, camp, sit, place equipment or leave belongings in an area that obstructs an emergency route.

Vehicles or property that obstruct emergency access may be moved where reasonably necessary.

33. DIRECTIONS FROM EVENT STAFF

You must follow all reasonable directions from Event Staff relating to:

- entry;
- security;
- alcohol;
- parking;
- traffic;
- camping;
- crowd movement;
- emergencies;
- evacuation;
- weather;
- restricted areas;
- environmental protection; and
- general Event safety and operations.

Failure to follow a reasonable direction may result in refusal of entry or removal from the Event.

34. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS

We may update these Terms and Conditions where reasonably necessary to:

- reflect changes to the Event;
- comply with applicable law;
- address safety or security requirements;
- correct an error; or
- clarify an existing Event rule.

We will not use this clause to retrospectively remove rights that you have already acquired, except where permitted by law.

Where a change materially affects your rights or obligations in relation to a purchase already made, we will provide notice where reasonably practicable.

35. SEVERABILITY

If any part of these Terms and Conditions is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be severed or limited to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue.

36. GOVERNING LAW

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand.

Any dispute arising in connection with these Terms and Conditions is subject to the applicable laws and jurisdiction of New Zealand, subject to any rights you may have under applicable law.
